A fundraiser was held Thursday for the family of a homicide victim in Oceano.

Branch Street Deli held the fundraiser Thursday evening in memory of Daniel Fuentes, Sr.

Fuentes Sr. was shot and killed on April 3 in the 2200 block of Beach Street. His family believes he went to a market to buy water for his grandmother and on his way back, was shot in the alleyway.

No arrests have been made in the case.

His family remembers him as a supporting and loving member of the family.

“He was my dad. He was the person who raised me. He taught me how to shave, he taught me how to shake a man’s hand,” said his son Daniel Fuentes, Jr.

Ten percent of the proceeds from Thursday’s fundraiser will go to the family as they look to cover memorial expenses.

“I wouldn’t be here it wasn’t for the Fuentes Family because they would show me as much love if a family member of mine passed away, and that’s what I’m here for, to show some love to them and support them. There is no place I would rather be than here,” said Jonathan Davis, a friend of the family who attended the fundraiser.

The family has also set up a GoFundMe page.
