Arraignment continued for man charged in connection with deadly Nipomo crash

The Aptos man facing charges in connection with a deadly crash in Nipomo last week made his first court appearance Wednesday since his arrest.

Aleksandr Moiseyev did not enter a plea. His arraignment was continued to August.

The 28-year-old’s arrest came after officers say he drifted into the opposite lane on Pomeroy Road near Sandydale Drive and crashed his small SUV into a pickup truck the afternoon of July 8.

The driver of the pickup, identified as Jose Soto Gonzales, 57, from Nipomo, died at the scene.

Moiseyev has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and two counts of driving under the influence of drugs causing injury, with an enhancement of personally causing great bodily injury, according to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office.

Jail logs show Moiseyev was booked into custody July 12 and remains behind bars at San Luis Obispo County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
