UPDATE: 10:40 p.m. — The suspect, Aleksandr Moiseyev, 28, was charged with one count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and two counts of driving under the influence of drugs causing injury, with an enhancement for personally causing great bodily injury.

Jail records show Moiseyev has been in custody since July 12, and charges listed on jail custody logs allege he was under the influence of at least one drug at the time of the crash.

The man killed in a suspected DUI crash in Nipomo Monday has been identified by the California Highway Patrol as Jose Soto Gonzales, 57.

The California Highway Patrol says Aleksandr Moiseyev, 28, of Aptos crossed the double yellow lines as he rounded a curve on Pomeroy Rd. near Sandydale Dr. and crashed his small SUV into Gonzales’s truck that was traveling in the opposite direction.

Moiseyev, who was hospitalized with major injuries, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

Gonzales died at the scene.
