Man facing DUI, other charges following deadly weekend crash in Paso Robles

A Northern California man is now behind bars following a deadly crash over the weekend in Paso Robles.

The California Highway Patrol tells KSBY News Wilder Blue Barela, 31, was released from the hospital Tuesday and booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of felony DUI causing injury and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

He was arrested following the crash Saturday on the 5700 block of Union Road.

Officers say the vehicle Barela was driving went off the road and hit a tree.

His passenger, a woman also from Northern California, was killed. Her name has not yet been released.

Barela’s bail is set at $100,000.

Jail logs allege his BAC was above .10 percent at the time of the crash.
