UPDATE (2/26/19) – Caltrans says the closures of Mud Creek and Paul’s Slide are expected to remain in place until at least Thursday, Feb. 28.
Caltrans confirmed Monday it will be closing the Mud Creek and Paul’s Slide areas along Highway 1 in Big Sur this week because of another storm.
The closures are scheduled to go into effect at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
Both areas are prone to landslides, so Caltrans has developed a plan that calls for the sections of highway to be closed to traffic during significant storm systems.
The gates on either side of Mud Creek and Paul’s Slide will be closed and locked until crews can inspect the highway and clean up any debris once the storm passes.
It’s unknown how long the closure is expected to last.
