The organizers of the Wildflower Experience announced on Facebook Friday that the 2019 triathlon has been canceled.
The post cites “several external circumstances beyond our control” as the reason behind the cancellation. It says all participants will receive full refunds and that the triathlon will return in May 2020.
In 2017, the popular triathlon at Lake San Antonio was called off for the first time in 34 years because of low water levels and a lack of participation. It returned in 2018.
In its prime, the triathlon boated more than 8,000 participants and 30,000 spectators.
According to the Wildflower Experience Facebook post, athletes who had already registered for 2019 will receive priority registration for the 2020 race.
