Central Coast educational leaders are trying to increase awareness about the dangers of vaping.

San Luis Obispo County’s Office of Education is offering a free presentation Wednesday called “Understand and Prevent Youth Vaping.”

Parents, students, educators, and community members are welcome to attend the free event and learn more about vaping, JUUL, e-cigarettes, and other vaping devices.

The presentation will cover several topics including the effects of nicotine on the adolescent brain, youth vulnerability to addiction, health risks on new pod-based devices like JUUL, why young people are vaping, and efforts in the U.S. to reduce vaping usage among youth.

It runs from 12 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the County Office of Education in the Rancho El Chorro Auditorium, located at 2450 Pennington Creek Road.

The information in the presentation is from the creators of the Tobacco Prevention Toolkit from Stanford Medicine.
