Some interiors make their first play for triple digit temps Tuesday

Good Morning Central Coast!

This morning is starting off with comfortable conditions and clear skies for the vast majority of communities! Aside from a little early morning fog in the Santa Ynez valley we can enjoy a clear commute.

The biggest weather story today is the heat as a big warm up is being felt in the interior valleys. This is all driven by a high pressure system sitting to our east and bringing broad offshore flow. Now only will this help to warm us up by bringing warmer air into the region but also as it will drive the cooler marine air offshore. On top of all of that as this already warm air is compressed as it pushes towards the beaches into lower elevations it will warm up even more.

Thanks to these warmer temps a heat advisory has been issued for the interiors of San Luis Obispo County. The worst of it will be felt wednesday and thursday (when the advisory is active) but today will also be a scorcher. Please take the proper precautions, there is a significant risk for heat-related illnesses.Drink plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms, avoiding direct sun exposure, and checking on relatives and neighbors and remember to never leave children or pets in cars.

Temps today will be very broadly ranging. Beaches will be in the upper 60s and 70s. Coastal valleys in the mid 70s to 80s (San Luis Obispo will be into the 90s thanks to some stronger offshore flow from the Cuesta Ridge) and interiors will make a play for 100.

These hot conditions will only get worse for Wednesday. Many locations will be above 100, add in some gusty northwest winds and you have a good recipe for fire danger.

Thursday will be the last of this hot streak, the core high pressure will push east and some onshore winds will return. That will mean more morning fog and cloud cover but also thankfully cooler weather overall, even to the interior valleys.

Have a great day Central Coast!
