Good morning Central Coast!
This morning is a tale of two forecasts, interior valleys are clear while coasts are socked in with dense fog.
The fog is limiting visibility to such a degree that there is a dense fog advisory in place for our beaches and many coastal valleys through noon today. The coastal valleys will clear first while beaches will be slow. That being said take caution on the roads this morning as many locations are seeing visibility near 1/4 mile.
Even with the dense fog it is going to be a hot one today as the strong high pressure continues to push offshore winds through the region. Thanks to the dense fog beaches will stay on the cooler side while coastal valleys will once again reach into the upper 80s. Interior valleys will be in the mid 90s.
Due to these hot temperatures there is a heat advisory in place for much of San Luis Obispo county through 8 p.m.
Limit exposure and exertion during the heat of the day.
In addition to the heat and fog advisories there is a high surf advisory in effect across our western beaches through 9 a.m. Friday morning. Along the southcoast there is a special marine statement also in effect through Friday morning. Despite the two different types of alerts they both essentially mean the same thing... take caution in the water, the waves are increasing. Waves of 10 to 13 feet with maximum sets up to 16 feet are expected alongside rip current risk and sneaker wave possibility.
Tomorrow temps will begin a days long warming trend brought on by the ridge of high pressure that has driven the forecast the past few days drifting East. As it pushes east winds will shift onshore and bring back cloud cover and more widespread fog.
Friday's temps will be a few degrees cooler as the transition begins bit as we head into the weekend temps will fall dramatically with some daytime highs only in the 60s and 70s or the coming weekend and the drop in temperatures in the interior will be dramatic.
These cooler conditions last much of next week as the weather pattern flip-flops from a ridge of high pressure to a trough over The West.
Have a wonderful Thursday Central Coast!
