Good morning Central Coast!
Check out our beautiful conditions from this morning! I love watching a new day begin across the Central Coast especially when skies are illuminated so beautifully!
Putting back on my meteorologist hat something to point out is the significant cloud cover we have this morning. Thankfully it will not cause visibility concerns for morning commuters it does show that a storm is brewing just offshore.
Temps will be a touch cooler today but still wonderful with some clouds here and there.
Tuesday will bring similar (even a little warmer) conditions. Enjoy it and take the time to get prepared for rain. This is a transition period leading into a multi-day rain event that will bring rain Wednesday through Saturday.
A weak atmospheric river will make landfall in far northern California Tuesday. This will miss us but the low pressure driving the system will move back to the Pacific and rotate around back to us by Wednesday afternoon. That is when our rain chances start.
We can expect several waves of light to moderate rain starting Wednesday night. The key to this system isnt heavy rain it is longevity of the chances.
All of the talk is surrounding a weak atmospheric river (AR) poised to impact the west coast this week. True AR conditions will stay far north (Tomorrow) of us but the low pressure will cycle around and begin to impact us Wednesday when light rain chances begin.
As the system slowly traverses over us showers stay in the forecast into the weekend.
The key to this storm isn't heavy rain, although we have a chance for that Saturday night it is the longevity. Four days of scattered showers will bring water that is much needed for our dry ground.
This many days out there is still uncertainty within the storm and specifically rain totals depending on where you look. My forecast is 0.5" to 1.5" inches broadly with mountain peaks like Rocky Butte with more significant totals.
That level of rain while not particularly intense can cause concern. Take the next few days to clear gutters and prepare your property for this storm and winter rainy season.
Again, take precautions ahead of this rain event. Check your wipers, get sandbags and be aware of potential flooding in your area.
Sunday skies will clear and warming will take over. Into the extended forecast conditions will stay mild although cooler for this time of year.
Have a wonderful Monday and week ahead Central Coast!
