Good morning Central Coast!
It was a hot one Tuesday and today those temps are set to climb even more as a huge high pressure system pushes through our region skyrocketing temperatures.
Thankfully beaches will stay cooler for today as the marine layer continues to bring morning and evening fog. Where that fog is in place we will see much cooler air but on the other side of that coin, interiors will scorch with highs flirting with 110°.
Temps today will be hot, interior valleys will flirt with 110° while the coastal valleys will warm into the 80s. If you are looking to escape the heat, beaches will be in the 60s and 70s.
With all of that heat alerts have already been issued. Here they are:
Excessive Heat Warning: All of the interior valleys, south coast communities and most coastal valleys through Monday afternoon. Take extreme caution, stay hydrated and limit outdoor heat exposure.
Excessive Heat Advisory: Some coastal valleys with highs into the low 90s. Take caution still and be aware of the afternoon heat away from beaches.
All Central Coast residents should take necessary precautions to stay cool and hydrated, and check on vulnerable populations such as the elderly and young children.
Typical onshore winds are expected each afternoon and evening, affecting interior passes and canyons. Sundowner winds are possible along the Santa Barbara south coast on Thursday and Friday evenings, which could lead to rapid warming in those areas during the evening hours.
Friday is expected to be the hottest day, with temperatures potentially reaching 110-115 degrees in the interior, 100-105 in the valleys, and 90s in coastal regions. Beaches will also see highs in the 80s. Minimal cooling is forecast over the weekend, with temperatures remaining well above normal.
Long-term forecasts indicate that the high-pressure system may persist into next week, prolonging the heatwave, particularly in inland areas. Residents should remain vigilant and prepared for continued high temperatures.
Even on the Climate Prediction Center 8-14 day outlook high temps are going to stick around into the later half of the month.
The combination of extreme heat, low humidity, and potential winds increases the risk of wildfires. Please stay informed about fire weather conditions and follow any advisories or evacuation orders issued by local authorities.
Stay safe, stay cool, and keep an eye on updates as this heatwave progresses.
Have a great day Central Coast!
