Good morning Central Coast!
To kick off the morning we are still a bit warmer than normal as we hold onto some of the heat from Wednesday as well as the offshore winds that are sticking around.
Wednesday was a hot one across the region as strong offshore winds pumped hot air to the coasts and elevated concern with fire weather. Highs reached into the 80s for many communities with gusts upwards of 50 mph at points. Here is a look at some of the daytime highs from Wednesday.
Our pattern is being driven by a strong high pressure system sitting to our west. This is driving the offshore winds and by exptention the heat.
Peaks passes and canyons were near record level for this time of year, but less wind is expected today, thankfully. In fact, there are no current advisories at all.
Temperatures today will once again be hot (comparably) with many in the mid-70s to low-80s. That is once again 10-15 degrees above normal.
The high pressure will weaken by tonight and the winds will ease. Late tonight into Friday morning the winds will even turn onshore.
By Friday, the offshore winds will weaken further, and a southwesterly flow will bring in some mid and high-level clouds. This will result in partly cloudy skies and a further cooling trend.
Looking ahead to the weekend, a large storm system to the north may bring some light rain to San Luis Obispo County, though the chances are currently low. Onshore flow and cloud cover will continue to moderate temperatures.
A significant NorCal system is likely for Christmas Eve, but locally the impact will be diminished, but it still looks like some rain will fall. This far out, I’d say up to .30” of rain but I’ll be refining this forecast in the coming days. At this point be aware there could be travel issues, especially if you head north of the Central Coast.
Have a wonderful day Central Coast!
