Good morning, Central Coast! Happy Friday, as we head into the weekend there is one thing to say... stay cool.

Extreme heat is the name of the game as highs peak Friday and Saturday as a high pressure moves closer to us, shifting winds, continuing to banish marine influence and increase sunshine.

The warmest 2 days of the next week are Today and Saturday where some inland temps will likely be between 105 and 112 degrees. Temps at that level can get dangerous quick. For those headed to the mid state fair today and Saturday are going to be dangerously hot.

Thankfully for folks at the coasts temps are significantly lower, in the 80s in coastal valleys and 70s at most beaches.

Our current heat advisory ends this morning at 10 a.m. then an excessive heat watch takes over from Friday morning into Saturday evening. This is an upgrade in intensity from the advisory, proper concern should be taken. Use common sense, stay hydrated and stay aware of potential heat illnesses.

Temps ease to 100-105 range Sunday into Monday and cool further Wednesday and Thursday to just under 100 degrees. This is thanks to a shift in the overall pattern as monsoon moisture will bring a set of storms into Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona to end the weekend. This will NOT bring rain to the Central Coast but it will destabilize the high pressure in turn limiting heating slightly.

A the coasts there will be much less risk of heat as the marine layer continues to mak itself at home and keep temps significantly lower. That being said it is dense marine fog so limited visibility is expected.

A far as the next few days are concerned the peak of the heat is today and tomorrow, slight cooling will stick around each day, eventually returning highs to the mid 90s by late next week.

Next weekend there is some indication in models and in the Climate Prediction Center 8-14 day outlook that extreme heat may build in once again but that is far from a sure bet.

Have a wonderful weekend Central Coast!
