UPDATE: Pond Fire 67% contained, 2,005 acres burned

UPDATE (7:02 p.m.) - Containment of the Pond Fire has increased to 67% as of Monday evening.

Fire officials say one home burned in the fire and a second home was damaged. An additional 13 outbuildings were destroyed.

Full containment is expected by Saturday, August 8.

(7:05 a.m.) - The Pond Fire burning near Creston and east of Santa Margarita that broke out Saturday is now 60% contained and has burned 2,005 acres.

According to CAL FIRE SLO, 200 structures are threatened and two have been destroyed.

Containment lines have been widened for expected elevated winds and lower humidities. Firefighters continue to mop up and mitigate hazards near the perimeter of the fire. Steep rugged terrain and hot temperatures remain a factor.

Evacuation Warnings are still in effect for Huer Huero Road, from Random Canyon south to Park Hill Rd, Park Hill Rd at Huer Huero Rd east to Earthstar Pl. All other areas under orders or warnings have been lifted.

An evacuation center is available to those forced to leave their homes at Santa Margarita Elementary School.

SLO HEET: Railhead Ranch Arena is available for animal evacuations.

Huer Huero Rd from HWY 58 to Random Canyon remains closed.
