UPDATE (11:24 p.m.) Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for a portion of Kern County that borders San Luis Obispo County.
According to CAL FIRE, people in evacuation zone KRN-249-A are being told to leave their homes now.
The zone is north of Mocal Road, south of Addie Avenue, East of Hurricane Road and west of Highway 33.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

UPDATE (9:11 p.m.) - The fire burning outside Santa Margarita on Bureau of Land Management land had scorched 3,185 acres as of Saturday evening.
Limited information on the fire is being released.

UPDATE (3:58 p.m.) - The Hurricane Fire was estimated at 858 acres as of 12:45 p.m., according to CAL FIRE.
CAL FIRE was referring all additional questions to the Bureau of Land Management, which has not responded to KSBY's request for additional information.

ORIGINAL STORY: Firefighters in the Santa Margarita area are battling a vegetation fire that broke out Saturday morning near the Carrizo Plain National Monument.
As of 8:22 a.m., the fire near Elkhorn and Hurricane roads was said to be about five acres.
CAL FIRE is being assisted by the Bureau of Land Management.
No word on the cause.
