The reason for this is a soft trough in the jet stream which has weakened high pressure across The West. Onshore flow with night and morning clouds have been the dominant feature. The depth of the marine layer is allowing some of that air inland. This effect is at its peak on Friday and we’ll likely see the coolest temps of the week.

Highs at the Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles will likely only hit upper 70s or lower 80s. Beaches will be in the 60s with coastal valleys in the lower 70s.

A ridge of high pressure will back into The West. We’ll see a slow warming trend over the weekend but early next week inland locations look hot again with temps in the mid 90s Monday warming to near 100 Tuesday and Wednesday.

Enjoy the mild weekend weather at the #midstatefair because our forecast calls for 100 to return next week.

The thing to watch out for in the extended forecast is muggy air. The ridge of high pressure is positioned in a way that sub-tropical air ‘can’ move west. If that happens it likely wouldn’t arrive until later next week. This would mean marginally cooler highs but that would be countered by mugginess which could actually make things feel warmer.
