St. Joseph High School pitcher Hunter Barnhart had his senior season cut short but the Knights' standout made history on Thursday night as the Tamp Bay Rays selected the right-hander in the third round of the MLB Draft.

The Paso Robles native played more than two seasons with the Bearcats before eventually transferring to St. Joseph. Not only did he pitch, but Barnhart also led the Knights to a Mountain League championship on the gridiron.

Barnhart made a couple of starts this season, striking out 18 in just 11 innings of work.

Despite being drafted, Barnhart has already committed to Arizona State to play baseball.
