The Lompoc football team is no stranger to big games, in fact, the Braves have already played in multiple marquee matchups so far this season. Lompoc will share the spotlight Friday night with Santa Barbara in our Week 9 Game of the Week.
This may be the most important game of the season for the Braves, hosting the Dons who share the top spot in Channel League with an identical 2-0 record.
Lompoc has cruised through league play so far. The Braves outscored Santa Ynez and Dos Pueblos 101-7 in their two wins, including a 56-0 shutout last Friday against the Chargers.
While Santa Barbara isn’t the final Channel League matchup for Lompoc, the Braves know a win over the Dons can put them on the fast track to yet another league championship.
"We're excited. Santa Barbara is a great football team and definitely much improved," Lompoc head coach Andrew Jones said. "They've got a great quarterback. I've always had this one highlighted from the beginning of the year and knew it was going to be a tough matchup for us. We're looking forward to it."
"I honestly think they're just another team. I think that's how we go into every game," Lompoc senior linebacker Jed Rantz added. "It's obviously a bigger game because it's a great team and great competition. Deacon [Hill] is doing good over there along with the coaches. I'm pretty excited. I think it will be great."
Lompoc and Santa Barbara will kickoff at Huyck Stadium on Friday night at 7 P.M.
