The Orcutt Academy football team is looking to build on last season's success and get back into the playoffs.
The Spartans had a solid 2018 campaign, finishing 8-4 overall and 5-2 in the Central Sierra League. Orcutt made it to the second round of the Central Section 8-man playoffs before coming up short to Fresno Christian.
Under new head coach Gabe Espinoza, this Spartans squad is not only looking to get back to the postseason but looking for a CIF title. The expectations are high and coach believes he's got the guys to make their goals a reality.
"The expectation hasn't changed. I know that's a very high expectation, but with this group of kids and with the division that we play in, I think it's a very high possibility that it could happen.," said Espinoza.
"We're getting more connected each and every day," senior center Marc Valdez added. "We're just trying to strive for our end goal, CIF finals, be more connected as a team, get that brother bond, and overall, play as a team and win each game, one day at a time. "
Orcutt's first test comes Week 1 on the road when the Spartans face the Fulton Jaguars.
