With a thrilling 4-3 win over Templeton in the CIF Central Sectional semifinal on Wednesday, the Atascadero baseball team punched its ticket to Fresno and will play for the Division 3 title against Highland on Saturday.

The 12th-seeded Greyhounds dropped their first four regular season games, but with three straight tournament wins, Atascadero finds itself just 21 outs away from a section title.

“I think it took a while for the chemistry to kick in,” Head Coach Joe Davis said.

“We really came together towards the end especially,” senior Evyn Lade added. “I feel like we’ve just really become a team, and we’ve come so far. It’s really awesome.”

“We did struggle at the beginning of the year, but we’ve really come together as a team,” senior Cade Van Allen said. “We work hard in practice, we’re taking things more seriously, and we just got hot at the right time.”

The Greyhounds will have to stay hot for just seven more innings if they want to capture a section championship.
