With a dominant 14-3 win over Selma on Tuesday, the Templeton softball team punched its ticket to the CIF Central Section Division 3 title game on Saturday at Fresno State.

“I’m really happy we got this far,” senior right fielder Makaila Landes said. “A lot of people didn’t expect us so I’m really proud of our team.”

A year after falling short in the CIF Southern Section semifinal, the second-seeded Eagles are back playing meaningful softball in May.

“We just need to soak it in,” senior pitcher Ashley Daugherty said. “Win or lose, it’s going to be a cool experience.”

Despite being a team comprised of mostly freshmen, head coach Keith Swank has his squad just 21 outs away from a CIF Central Section championship.

“We have to be confident and aggressive, and as long as we believe we can win, we will,” Swank said.

Templeton’s biggest test of the year comes this Saturday as the Eagles get set to clash against top-seeded Dinuba with first pitch scheduled for approximately 12 p.m.
