San Luis Obispo High School held a special dedication for their 1960 football team that captured the school’s second CIF Championship Thursday morning.

20 members of that title-winning squad were in attendance as the school dedicated a trophy case in their honor.

The case, which can be found inside the school’s small gymnasium, includes a signed game ball from when the Tigers defeated Mary Star of the Sea, a letterman’s jacket, programs, newspaper clippings, and other various donated memorabilia from that 1960 season

Bill Black, a 1961 SLO High grad, says the dedication is an honor for not only the school’s past but the current and future success of Tigers’ athletics.

“I hope they get an idea an appreciation of their past heritage and those things that other people at this high school went through,” Black said. “It led the way for what’s happening here with all the construction, new buildings, and success in athletics they’re having now.”

The Tigers have won five CIF football titles; 1947, 1960, 1968, 1980, and 2001.
