Neta Ofiaeli of Santa Ynez and Cailin Daniels of Lompoc were named athletes of the week at the Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table in Santa Maria.

Ofiaeli, the female athlete of the week, helped led the lady Pirates as a freshman to the Channel League championship in track & field last week. Ofiaeli won three events, including the 100-meter dash (12.80), 200-meter dash (27.08), and triple jump (36′-1.5″).

“I’m elated. I’m so happy,” Ofiaeli said. “I did not think this was going to happen. I’m just a freshman out of Santa Ynez, and I can’t believe I won.”

Daniels, the male athlete of the week, helped guide the Braves to the boys Channel League track & field title last week. Daniels also won three times at the league finals, including the long jump (20′-11.5″), triple jump (41′-3.25″), and he anchored the winning 4×100-meter relay team.

“I really put in a lot of effort, a lot of hard work on the track and on the runway, in the weight room,” Daniels said. “I’ve really improved from last year just being a better person and an athlete.”

Last week’s featured athletes were also honored on Monday afternoon, Izzy Fraire of Allan Hancock College and Jovany Lucatero of Lompoc.
