Kailey Roux of Allan Hancock College and Andrew Sparlin of Valley Christian Academy were named athletes of the week at the Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table in Santa Maria.
Roux, the female athlete of the week, is a diver on the Bulldogs’ swimming and diving team. Roux finished third in the 1-meter event at the Western State Conference meet and fourth in the 3-meter event at the Southern California Regional Diving Championships at El Camino College over the weekend. Roux advances to the CCCAA State Championships in May.
Sparlin, the male athlete of the week, is a pitcher for VCA. In a 10-0 win over Coast Union last Tuesday, Sparlin pitched five innings of two-hit baseball while striking out eight batters. Sparlin added a grand slam and two runs at the plate for the Lions. VCA will take on Dunn Tuesday night with a chance to share the Coast Valley League title.
