The Cuesta College baseball team rallied to defeat Allan Hancock, 13-6, in a Western State-North Conference battle on Wednesday afternoon in San Luis Obispo.

The Bulldogs struck first in the first as Jake Shusterich plated Mike Mclean with an RBI single to left field.

In the second inning, Mclean ripped a shot off the center field wall which turned into a two-run inside-the-park home run to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead.

Cuesta got on the board in the third inning as Ryan McCarty doubled in Gabe Barthelmass from first base, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

The Cougars continued to claw back as David Martinez and Thomas Green connected on back-to-back home runs.

Cuesta eventually tied the game at four in the fifth inning when Martinez knocked in his second run of the day with a blooper to center field that scored Green.

The game changed in the eighth inning when Cuesta put up an eight-spot to put the game out of reach. Mason Grotto, Martinez, and Matt Keller all had run-scoring singles.

Allan Hancock would get one run back in the ninth thanks to an RBI double by Travis Welker, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Martinez led the way offensively for Cuesta with three hits, four RBI, a walk, and a run scored.

Jeff Ray had four hits and three runs scored in a losing effort for Allan Hancock.

With the win, Cuesta improves to 10-7 overall, 1-2 in WS-N play. The loss evens Allan Hancock’s overall record to 10-10 and 2-1 in WS-N play.

The Cougars and the Bulldogs will meet up again on Thursday, March 28 at Cuesta College, first pitch is 2:30 P.M.
