The San Luis Obispo boys basketball team is preparing to take on Lemoore in a CIF Central Section Division 2 semifinal Wednesday night at SLO High.

The second-seeded Tigers are the lone area team remaining in the basketball playoffs.

This is San Luis Obispo’s second straight trip to the semifinals after they advanced past Fresno last Friday night in the quarterfinals, 61-49. The Tigers made it to the CIF Southern Section semis last season.

The Tigers beat third-seeded Lemoore earlier in the season at their home tournament, and they know it will be another tough battle this time around.

“We play a variety of teams in our league that help prepare you for everything,” head coach Jeff Brandow said. “Lemoore is very talented. They’re big, they’re very long, they’re athletic, they play zone, and they press which is going to create some challenges for us.”

“They are super athletic, and they’re a good team, senior forward Matteo Cuccaro added. “We need to stop them in transition. We have to make sure we rebound. We have to play defense really well. I mean, if we do that, hopefully, we’ll win.”

Opening tip between San Luis Obispo and Lemoore is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. Top-seeded San Joaquin Memorial and fourth-seeded Independence make up the other Division 2 semifinal.
