San Luis Obispo boys soccer secured the inaugural Mountain League title Thursday night after shutting out Santa Maria, 1-0.

The Tigers and Saints kept it scoreless unil the twelth minute when Elvis Mensah secured the game-winning goal off Kellen Barry’s free kick.

“It feels amazing. We’ve been working super hard since the beginning of the season. We’ve been working very hard to get to this point, and I’m glad to send my team to CIF playoffs,” Mensah said.

“I knew that the first one to score was going to win. Both teams had great defenses tonight, so we were able to poke one in,” said James Boscaero, San Luis Obispo head coach. “At that moment, I had a feeling we were going to get the shutout.”

Winning this title comes a year after the team had to forfeit 10 of its victories and the PAC 8 League title because a player broke CIF-Southern Section rules by playing in a men’s league game in Paso Robles.

The CIF Central Section playoffs begin on Wednesday.
