St. Joseph’s Jackson Stahl, Valley Christan Academy’s Richard Matias, and Giselle Calderon of Orcutt Academy were named Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.
The male Athlete of the Week was shared between Stahl and Matias.
Stahl scored both of the Knights soccer goals in a win over Orcutt Academy for a chance, giving St. Joseph a chance of a winning record for the first time in nearly two decades.
“I really connect well with Henry Adam, the other athlete here,” Stahl said. “Us together, we dominate that left side. Once we dominate that left side, we start crossing in the middle and that leads to more goals.”
Meanwhile, Matias was recognized for his 39 points scored during the Lion’s 66-62 boys basketball victory against Dunn High School. Matias followed that up with a 25 point effort against Maricopa on Friday. Valley Christian will play at Nordhoff on Wednesday in the CIF-SS Division 5A playoffs.
The female Athlete of the Week honor went to Calderon for her 55 points over the Spartans’ last three games. She also added 17 rebounds, 11 assists, and six steals during that span. Orcutt Academy girls basketball currently sits third in the Ocean League.
“I’ve gone to where I’ve been with the team that I have. It’s the support group, the system as well. My parents also helped at the time,” Calderon said.
