Preparations are underway for the California Invitational Tournament, the area’s biggest high school wrestling tournament of the year.

The C.I.T., held at Morro Bay High School, will host 89 boys wrestling teams from all across California. There will be 11 mats in three different locations on campus.

The action begins Friday, January 18 and will finish up on Saturday with the finals under the spotlight.

Tournament director and Morro Bay High School athletic director John Andree says this event is not only great for wrestlers, but spectators as well.

“One of the things is the venue, we have such a great place here on the coast, people and teams love to come. We’ve got four ranked teams in the top 10, 89 teams, and the competition is excellent. I think a lot of teams what to come see where they’re at before the state tournament,” said Andree.

1,000 wrestlers are expected to compete throughout the weekend.
