Templeton High School announced Cesar Ortega as its new head varsity baseball coach Wednesday afternoon.

Ortega has more than 30 years of coaching experience, both at the high school and collegiate level.

He recently served as the assistant coach with Edison High School and co-head coach at McLane High School.

Ortega replaces Pete Kotheimer, who led the Eagles to a 21-8 overall record and first place in the Los Padres League.

“I just want to give Templeton High School a special thanks for giving me the opportunity to come over and show my talents and my gifts,” Ortega said. “To be able to raise some of the level of these baseball players game and be able to get them to the next level educational wise, is that’s why I do this. I do this because it’s all about education, to use baseball as a vehicle to get these kids scholarships and help the parents in the long run, then i’m doing my job.”

The Eagles begin baseball practice on Thursday.
