Santa Maria’s Isabella Medina and Lompoc’s Ryan Morgan were named Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.

Medina scored three goals while adding five assists last week in two wins. Santa Maria defeated Coast Union 10-0 and Cabrillo 2-1 for its best start in school history. The junior midfielder also scored the game-winner earlier this year against rival Pioneer Valley for the schools first ever win against the Panthers.

“Our team this year, it’s really really good. We’re accomplishing all the goals that we wanted to do last year,” Medina said. “With all the hard work everyone has been doing this season, we’re good.”

Brave’s Ryan Morgan won All-League MVP at the Shafter Tournament after leading his team to a championship. Morgan averaged a double-double for the tournament, averaging 16.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block per game. His best outing was against Bakersfield’s West High School with 24 points, 18 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. Lompoc won that game 74-70 in overtime.

“The reason why I was able to play so well was, after taking four losses during the AG tournament, I didn’t want that to happen again. I really motivated myself to play as best as I could for the team, not even for myself. I wanted my team to get the win and I ended up doing that right,” Morgan said.
