Lompoc’s Bella Robles and St. Joseph’s Steven Vasquez were named Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.
Robles, a senior on the Lompoc girls basketball team, earned All-Tournament honors at Nipomo this past weekend. Robles averaged 19.5 points per game for the Braves and guided them to a 3-1 tournament record.
“We’re playing as a team and everyone is contributing, everyone is scoring, and everyone is doing their part as a team,” Robles said. “That’s benefiting us to win the games we’ve played.”
Vasquez is a sophomore on the undefeated St. Joseph boys basketball team. In the first weekend of the ‘Hoops at the Coast’ boys basketball tournament, Vasquez dropped 31 points and seven three-pointers in a 107-94 win over Edison on Saturday night.
“I felt a lot better than the day before, but my coaches told me to keep shooting because that’s what I do,” Vasquez said after having shooting struggles in Friday night’s game against Redwood. “I felt locked in. I feel confident. We have a young group with a lot of sophomores pretty involved. Our core is sophomores and juniors, and I think we can do something special.”
