Santa Maria’s Thomas Segel and Allan Hancock’s Danielle Morgan were named Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.
Morgan, a freshman on the Bulldogs’ women’s basketball team, averaged 18.0 points and nine rebounds at the Cuesta College Tournament over the weekend while guiding Hancock to a 3rd Place finish.
Segel, a senior on the Saints’ boys basketball team, helped lead Santa Maria to a 2-2 record at last weekend’s Morro Bay HIT Tournament. Using his skill from beyond the arc, Segel averaged 19.5 points in four games for the Saints.
“I want to compete for a league title this year,” Segel said. “In the tournament, we played three league teams and every game came down to the last minute. I feel like the league is up for grabs right now, and it’s going to be about who wants it more.”
“It’s really exciting. I was planning on going to Gonzaga and then I kind of quickly halted and said I’m not ready to stop playing,” Morgan said. “I’m really excited for this season. It’s always great to be here and see all the local athletes get recognized, so I’m really glad.”
