The Mission Prep football team has rolled through the 8-man playoff bracket and is now just one win away from a CIF-Central Section title. It would be the Royals’ first football championship in school history.

The Royals are a perfect 11-0 this season with one of those wins coming against their championship opponent, Fresno Christian.

Mission Prep handed the Eagles their only loss of the season back on September 21, 45-6.

Since that defeat, Fresno Christian’s offense has averaged over 48 points per game, including a pair of victories over Orcutt Academy, one of which coming last Friday night in the semifinals.

The Royals know it won’t be easy to beat the same team twice in one season, especially a powerful squad like the Eagles.

“I think that first game is really an outlier,” head coach David Schuster said. “I don’t think that’s an accurate representation of who they are. It’s going to be a war, and they are very capable. They can match up with us athletically across the board, so we absolutely have a lot of problems. We have to play tremendous football to win this game.”

“It’s really exciting. Coach has been harping on it since we got that last win,” senior safety/running back Brayden Farr added. “It’s been all about Fresno, and we’re really excited. Basically, our entire focus has been on this week and making it happen.”

Mission Prep and Fresno Christian will kickoff at 7 P.M. Friday night in San Luis Obispo.
