The San Luis Obispo girls volleyball team defeated Nordhoff, 3-1, in a CIF-State Division 4 regional semifinal Saturday night at SLO High School.

The No. 1 seededTigers scratched out a 25-22 victory in the first set, only to fall by the same score in the second set.

“This team definitely stepped it up and challenged us and they were consistent and scrappy and I think that shook us a little bit, so we fell in the second set,” Tigers junior Frankie Phelan said.

Nordhoff, the No. 4 seed, blew a late lead to San Luis Obispo in the third set and the Tigers won 25-23.

The Tigers roared to victory over the Rangers in the fourth set, winning with a 25-16 advantage.

“After they came back and won and in between the games, we were like, we have to have some pride,” Tigers head coach Marci Beddall explained. “We have to have some pride and fight back. So, they kind of came alive. You saw that in the fourth game. It was definitely more so of the team that we are.”

It will be a battle between the top two seeds in the southern bracket on Tuesday night when San Luis Obispo hosts Beaumont in the regional final. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 P.M.
