Mission Prep girls tennis finished its best Cinderella story yet. They finished the season tied for third in the Ocean League and qualified for the CIF Central Section Division 3 playoffs as the No. 9 seed.

The Royals would go on an upset tear, defeating the No. 8 seed in the first round, No. 1 seed in the quarterfinals, No. 4 in the semifinals and would prepare for No. 6 Tulare Western in the finals.

It was the team’s first CIF finals appearance in 11 years and it would result in a nail-biting tiebreaker but Mission Prep would go on to win its first CIF championship title in school history.

“We were pretty confident going into it but obviously we were nervous because it was down to the line and at the end,” said Izzi Marshall, Mission Prep junior tennis player. “We all felt the pressure but I think we all went into it super positive and we were excited to be there either way at that point that we got there.”

“It came down to the last match at the end and we were all just watching that last one. We were so nervous. It was really exciting especially because this is my senior year and being able to be with the team as they win the CIF title,” said Avery Munster, Mission Prep senior tennis player.
