The Atascadero High School girls golf team made history this season after qualifying for CIF for the first time ever.

The Greyhounds punched a ticket to the postseason after recording a team score of 495 at the Dairy Creek Golf Course on Monday.

Atascadero finished the season 9-3 overall and 3-1 in league.

“Not only making it but being the first girls team to make it as a whole team to CIF was definitely something really inspiring,” said Cairo Murphy, Atascadero senior golfer.  “It made us now want to try so much harder to go as far as we can and continue to make that history.”

“We’re all so happy to have made that landmark so we’re all playing for each other at this point. We’re not focused on our individual success as much as our team success,” said Abbey Hurst, Atascadero senior golfer.

The girls are in Division 2 of the Central Section and will play in Lemoore on Monday.

The team includes Katie Burson, Abbey Hurst, Cairo Murphy, Alyssa Melendez, Julia Smith Madison Hosford, Sierra Powell and is coached by Kara Ferrel.
