KSBY’s Friday Night Highlights Week 1 ‘Game of the Week’ features a former PAC 5 match up and a SLO town battle with North County, San Luis Obispo and Atascadero.

The Tigers started its season with one of its toughest opponents they’ll face this year, Arroyo Grande. San Luis Obispo managed to score three touchdowns behind junior quarterback Emilio Corona who rushed for 97 yards and passed for 127.

The team says having that first game was a great learning opportunity to make some adjustments for Friday’s match against the Greyhounds.

"I was really proud of how our guys battled and didn’t give up against a big team like that," said Pat Johnston, San Luis Obispo head coach. "We put up some points against them, feels good."

"I feel pretty proud of my teammates. We went out there with a good attitude. We did some good things, there’s some things we need to improve on. I’m still really excited to play them. i’m still going to treat it like a league game and i’d love to beat Atascadero," said Charles Lincoln, San Luis Obispo senior captain.

As for Atascadero, they moved over to Division 1 in the CIF Central Section Mountain League and also began its season with a bye.

The extra rest helped but since the Greyhounds sat out the first game of the season, they say they’re eager to play on Friday.

"I think the whole team is really excited to be able to go hit someone else. We’ve been here we’ve tried to scrimmage with each other but it’s never really full speed," said Wyatt McKenzie, Atascadero senior cornerback. "We just want to go hit someone. We really don’t care who we’re playing."

"Just finally getting to go against a team of a different color per se. With that being said, offensively, we’re just trying to do the things we do and defensively, we’ve really got to worry about their quarterback-running back combination, which is pretty deadly," said Vic Cooper, Atascadero Head Coach.

The game is at Atascadero on Friday, kick off set for 7 p.m.
