Bishop Diego High School is coming off its best season in program history. The Cardinals not only won its first CIF Southern Section title in school history, but went on to win its first CIF State Championship.
Bishop Diego ended the dream season with a 15-1 overall record and 2-1 in the Tri-Valley League, but now the Cardinals are headed to the Camino League this fall.
It’s a new year for the program, which means plenty of new faces. The Cardinals have to replace a talented senior class, including running back John Harris who rushed for more than 150 yards per game and added 36 touchdowns last season.
Even though there’s a few holes to fill, head coach Tom Crawford says he’s confident this year’s squad can get the job done. "Well, I mean every year is a little different, you know, when you’ve got a group of new guys, but we have high expectations for this group," he said. "We talk only about the past from the perspective of, ‘Let’s pick up some things we can learn from it and move forward.’ I think everyone is getting excited about getting going again."
Bishop Diego begins the year at home on August 17 against Cabrillo.
