Two goals from sophomore defender Andrew Forth either side of junior forward Joemack Leonardo’s equalizer allowed the Green squad to top the White team Saturday evening during the Cal Poly men’s soccer program’s annual intrasquad exhibition inside Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

With Cal Poly’s 31-player team halved for the match, Forth opened Saturday’s scoring in the 24th minute. An initial shot attempt from junior midfielder Diego Alonso was pushed away by sophomore goalkeeper Jason Hernandez. The rebound fell to freshman defender Brecc Evans, who hit the left post. Forth, however, corralled the second loose ball and slotted his attempt past Hernandez from five yards.

The White squad required just five minutes to equalize, however. Senior forward Jared Pressley saw his lone shot on target saved by Green goalkeeper Carlos Arce-Hurtado before Leonardo collected the loose rebound and fired the follow-up over the goal line.

The Green side, however, found the match-winning goal 12 minutes into the second half. With the Green side having earned a throw deep inside White territory, senior forward Sean Goode’s toss landed for Forth, who poked his team’s second strike past freshman goalkeeper Victor Rodriguez.

Goode led all Cal Poly players with five shot attempts while Hernandez chalked up four saves in 35 minutes of action.

Cal Poly opens the 2018 regular season with a Friday, Aug. 24 home matchup versus Fresno Pacific. Kickoff time inside Alex G. Spanos Stadium is 7 p.m.

Following the season opener, Cal Poly begins a five-game road trip at Gonzaga on Monday, Aug. 27. Cal Poly’s lengthiest road trip in 10 years continues at Seattle (Aug. 31), Portland (Sept. 3), Saint Mary’s (Sept. 9) and CSU Bakersfield (Sept. 15).
