Atascadero High School is one of 13 schools moving from the CIF Southern Section into the Central Section as they join the five member Mountain League.

Last year, the Greyhounds finished 1-3 in the PAC 5 League and ended 3-7 overall. The squad brings back nine starters, including five on offense and four on defense.

A big change for Atascadero is its change to Division 1.

"The task is tough. I’m not sure if we really belong in Division 1, but we’ve had enough success over the years in the valley that I think we’re put there mostly on reputation," said Vic Cooper, Atascadero head coach. "You know, we want to beat AG, Paso, Righetti, and now St. Joe for a league championship. I think that’s probably their main focus."

"I doesn’t matter what team we play. I’m just glad I’m playing here for my town because I’ve always played for Atascadero. It’s in my blood, so it doesn’t matter what team we play," said Scott Morgan, Atascadero senior running back.

The Greyhounds begin the 2018 season with a bye and will play its first game against San Luis Obispo on August 24.
