Cuesta softball held to three hits in 3-2 loss to Santa Barbara

Posted

Cuesta Softball had a rare off day on offense with only three hits on their rain soaked field.  The visiting Vaqueros collected nine hits on the day, but it was pitcher Calista Wendell’s two-RBI double in the 2nd inning that broke open the game.  The Vaqueros added another unearned run the next inning and half-way through the contest they owned a 3-0 lead.

The Cougars rallied for a run in the 4th inning, but left the bases loaded.  In the 5th inning, they added another run and they seemed to have the momentum, but Wendell allowed only one more base runner over the last two frames to preserve her victory.

Center fielder Patty Bucio was the only Cougar to reach base twice.  She singled, walked, and scored a run in her three plate appearances.

The Cougars are back in action at home on Thursday (2:30) as they close out their Western State Conference schedule against #2 Bakersfield.  They end the season with a doubleheader at Citrus on Friday (1/3 PM).
