Advisory issued for recreational shellfish in Santa Barbara County

An important warning on March 19th the California Department of Public Health issued an advisory to avoid eating "sport" or recreationally-harvested shellfish.

Officials say dangerous levels of paralytic shellfish poisoning toxins have been found in the mussels from Santa Barbara County.

Health officials say commercially harvested shellfish in restaurants, grocery stores, or from fish markets are safe to eat.
