Some 14,000 Central Coast residents have filed for unemployment and it's likely some have lost their health care coverage as well. That's according to Mark Lisa, CEO of Tenet Health Central Coast.

That's why Tenet Health Central Coast, along with Meredith Health Center, will be hosting a Zoom presentation on Tuesday, May 19 at 4 p.m. specifically on Covered California and how locals can navigate coverage for themselves, family members, and employees.

"While our job is health care, we wanted to be proactive and take the extra step and introduce the type of coverage that would allow them to go forward and take care of their families so they can focus on other things as well, too, and help other people in our county recover quickly," Lisa said.

During the presentation, virtual attendees can expect to learn about different coverage options, including medical eligibility, Covered California benefits for small businesses, individual health coverage, and many other topics related to health coverage.

"With the expansion of the Affordable Care Act several years ago, it has really opened up access to Covered California to folks that are making well above what is considered the federal poverty level, so again, there's a lot of different stories out there, a lot of different levels of financial ability right now," Lisa said.

At the end of the presentation, attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions to representatives from Meredith Insurance Center and Covered California.

Lisa says the presentation is open to all community members.

"Not only should employees and folks that have lost their jobs, lost coverage, should participate in this Zoom presentation but small businesses as well and maybe even large businesses," Lisa said.
