Like many companies, Giovanni's Fish Market and Galley in Morro Bay is seeing an overall drop in business during the coronavirus pandemic, but the market's online orders have increased.

"That's actually what's carrying us. That's made the difference, whether we could stay open or not is having that online business," said owner Giovanni DeGarimore. "Again, something we started many, many years ago but we're just seeing an uptick, so we're transitioning a lot of our employees to our internet shipping department, and that allows us to keep them employed and keep the doors open so the locals can come buy some fish."

DeGarimore says he's even seen an increase in orders from other parts of the country. Giovanni's will overnight fresh fish anywhere in the United States.

The market is continuing to sell cooked food in addition to fresh fish and is offering contact-free payments with curbside pick-up and home delivery.

DeGarimore says he did have to lay off six employees but he hopes to rehire everyone back when they return to business-as-usual.
