Grover Beach restaurant sharing tips with current and laid off employees

A Grover Beach restaurant is doing what it can to help the 26 employees they've had to lay off.

The Spoon Trade, located at 295 W. Grand Ave., is currently serving up orders and family packages to go, a transition the owners say they had to make overnight and are doing with just four employees.

The restaurant rotates food seasonally and says it strives to serve California-grown meals.

"The community's been awesome. I mean, from people ordering weekly to every other week for their families or just a solo dinner, whatever they need, it's been really great to have a versatile menu for them," said co-owner Brooke Town.

Orders, including beer and wine, are asked to be placed before 3 p.m.; however, they will still take walk-in orders. Hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The owners say all tips collected are shared between their current and laid-off employees.
