Wood chips now fill the skate park at Fletcher Park in Santa Maria.

City spokesperson Mark van de Kamp says the wood chips were placed at the park on College Drive in an effort to deter use.

Van de Kamp says since the park was closed to help with social distancing measures, there have been several acts of vandalism there, including the fence being cut open to gain access to it, graffiti on ramps and more.

Tuesday afternoon, graffiti was not visible from outside the fence but a portion of the fence remained cut.

It's unknown when the park will re-open.
