Teenager dies after being struck by train in Montecito

UPDATE (Thurs., June 20) - The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office has identified the teen who died in Wednesday's accident as Ryan Bradley Chapman, 15, of Santa Barbara.

Chapman reportedly attended Santa Barbara High School. The school is opening a Compassion Center for students and families from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday and Friday in the Alumni Room, according to sheriff's officials.

(Wed., June 19, 2024) - A teenager died after being hit by a train in Montecito Wednesday.

Montecito Fire says firefighters responded to the tracks near the 1700 block of Fernald Point Lane after reports of the pedestrian being hit at around 1:40 p.m.

Firefighters reportedly provided medical care to the boy but he was pronounced dead.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office was called in to take over the investigation.
