Stearns Wharf is celebrating its 147th anniversary throughout the month of October and some merchants are giving out special deals to commemorate.

The wharf was built in 1872 by John Peck Stearns to transfer cargo and people from the ships to the shore. Stearns had the idea to build the wharf to help the City of Santa Barbara become better connected with the outside world because it is so isolated by the ocean and mountains.

Over the years Stearns Wharf has survived severe storms and fires, and now it is the oldest working wood wharf in California

Throughout the month of October anyone who visits the wharf is encouraged to stop by the local stores and ask for any anniversary specials.
