The California Independent System Operator has declared a stage three emergency due to the high temperatures and electricity demand.
Because of this, there will now be rotating outages throughout the state.
According to a California ISO press release, this kind of emergency is declared when demand outpaces available supply. The interruptions will occur to help maintain stability of the electric grid.
The press release said the California ISO is working with California utilities and neighboring power systems.
As portions of the grid are restored, local utilities will be restored as well.
